Dancing with the Stars Raises $50K for Veterans Memorial

From the Kearney Hub newspaper, November 13, 2017.

KEARNEY — Kearney’s Rotary clubs today presented $50,000 to Central Nebraska Veterans Memorial.

The donation was from the net proceeds from the Oct. 21 event, Kearney’s Dancing with the Stars 2.

In a press release, Rotary said the proceeds far exceeded expectations, and demonstrate the support of the community for veterans and the veterans memorial. The Central Nebraska Veterans Memorial committee accepted the donation at Kearney Noon Rotary meeting.

Just fewer than 700 people attended the second dancing event, at which volunteer dancers Jon Watts and Carrie Eighmey won the People’s Choice award for generating the most fundraised votes, and Mark Sutko and Marsha Wilkerson won the Judge’s Choice trophy for the best dance performance. Kearney’s Noon Rotary and Dawn Rotary clubs will use another $15,000 of the event proceeds to support local and international Rotary projects and to begin planning Kearney’s Dancing with the Stars 3.

Kearney’s Dancing with the Stars 3 will be March 23, 2019.
