Greetings All District Rotarians:

April is always a busy month in Rotary, and that includes District 5630.  April is Maternal and Child Health month. So what does that mean. This is the statements of purpose and goals. The Rotary Foundation improves the lives of mothers and their children by:

  •           Reducing the mortality rate for children under the age of five.
  •           Reducing the maternal mortality rate.
  •           Improving the access to essential medical services and trained health care providers for mothers and their children.
  •           Supporting studies related to maternal and child health.

District 5630 is now working, along with District 9212, Kenya and local clubs from North Platte, NE and Kakamega, Kenya on a large Global Grant for the improvement of maternity and pediatric services at the Kakamega County General  Hospital. This will be possibly a multi phase and year project. The first proposed budget is $100K+ grant and includes a vocational training team from District 5630. What is even more exciting is Alice Atemo , PP of the Kakamega Club will be visiting the District 5630 annual Conference in St Paul,NE May 18-20, 2017. She will give us a special presentation at the conference. Hopefully we will have a large turn out for her presentation and other presenters at the Conference. Rotary Serving Humanity.

Youth Exchange also has a lot going on with the coordination of current in bound student activities and our out bound students transitioning back home. Than YE Chair Paula Witt and her committee will be coordinating next year’s inbound students and their placements. Did you know there are 10 outbound and 9 inbound students for 2017-2018. That is awesome, and that is also a lot of work. Thank you Paula and committee for your dedication to our  youth.  We have one opening for placement from Italy, so if your club needs a very rewarding  and fun experience, this delightful young male student needs a club to step up and host him. I would encourage all clubs to consider this opportunity. You may contact Paula Witt for any questions 402-460-0005. Rotary Serving Humanity.

Finally, I would like to invite all the Rotarians from District 5630 to attend the celebration of club and district projects,  and we may just be able to hand out Presidential Citations, there are 4 clubs really close to qualifying. As soon as they complete one or two requirements they qualify. We also are celebrating the Rotary Foundation 100th Anniversary. This exciting event will take place May 18-20, 2017 in St Paul, NE at the St Paul Civic Center (Seed $100K by St Paul Rotary Club). The St Paul Club and District have planned a FUN DAY ON Thursday, May 18th, followed by the PDG dinner at Milleta Vista Winery in  the evening. Friday and Saturday will be filled with great speakers, Emerging Leaders/Young Professional panel discussion and question and answer time, catered meals and 100th year celebration of the Rotary Foundation. You can register online at https://rotary5630.org/conference-registration/

According to JoAnne Hoatson, District Administrative Assistant, it works for PayPal or credit cards. When you log into the site you can also print off the agenda and brochure. If you want to mail in the application and  CHECK please do so quickly as we need information for ordering meals. There you have it, we need every club in the District represented at the conference so we truly have a District celebration. Don’t forget each club needs to provide a door prize and silent auction item.  If you have a club project or Global Project your club was involved with and want to display it, we will have tables. We have a block of rooms at the Bel Air Motel, St Paul 308-754-4466, Fairfield Inn, GI, 308-381-8980, or Farwell Arms B&D, Farwell, NE 308-336-3287.

Thanks again for being a Rotarian and Serving Humanity.
