Tom was born in North Platte, Nebraska and was raised on the family farm eight miles north of Madrid. Tom attended the University of Nebraska and Wyoming.

After participating as a team member in a Group Study Exchange (GSE) to Argentina in 1998, his interest in Rotary was peaked and when asked by the Rotary Club of Ogallala to join, he did so in June 1998.

Tom and his wife, Janet who is also a Rotarian, have attended every District Conference since 1998 and two International Conventions. They have also attended many Foundation Meetings, PET Seminars and Membership Meetings. They are both multiple Paul Harris Fellows and Foundation Benefactors.

He was President of the Rotary Club of Ogallala in 2003 – 2004 and had the distinct honor of receiving the Club of the Year Award from the District on behalf of the Club. He was also instrumental in starting the second Interact Club of the District during his term as President.

With his enthusiasm for Group Study Exchange, he has been on the GSE Selection Committee.

Tom has also shown his support of the youth in the community by being a counselor at the Boy’s RYLA camp for two years.

In 2004 – 2005, Tom was the District Aid to DGE William E. (Bill) Ballou. He has been the Assistant Governor for Area 3 of District 5630 in 2005-2006 and was the Assistant Governor for Area 2 in 2006-2007.

Tom was a pioneer in no-till farming and serves and has served on a number of farm related committees and Boards. Tom and Janet farm in Perkins County, Nebraska.

Tom and Janet have two children, and 4 grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with their family and traveling when time permits. Tom enjoys nature photography, fishing and baking sourdough bread. They attend the United Methodist Church of Grant.
